A: We recommend scheduling your appointment for a time when your breasts are least likely to be tender—usually the week after your period if you're premenopausal. On the day of the test, avoid using deodorants, perfumes, powders, or lotions on your underarms or chest area. These products can show up on the images and mimic calcifications. Wear comfortable clothing, as you'll need to undress from the waist up and wear a gown provided by the center. If you've had previous mammograms at another facility, bring those images with you for comparison.
